The Glen McDonough Memorial Music Scholarship

2006 was the first year the Glen McDonough Memorial Music Scholarship was awarded. Brenna McQuay was selected as the recipient. Brenna, granddaughter of Brian and Dee Gallagher, has shown a tremendous interest in playing the piano. Her mother, Kathy McQuay (Gallagher) and father, Rick McQuay, have supported her and lead her toward her interests in music.

Brenna has been awarded $500.00 to be used toward piano lessons. Kathy is in the process of selecting from a list, an instructor that will both accommodate Brenna's desires and take an equally active role, as her parents, in leading Brenna and preventing discouragement.

Brenna's parents, Rick and Kathy have selected Miss Amy Gardner to teach Brenna piano. Miss Gardner holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is teaching piano in Garner, NC out of her home, in Chapel Hill and the Community Music School in Raleigh.

Miss Gardner is an active member of many teaching associations; she has participated in various music labs and even has performed in Switzerland. Amy has shared her talents with the Campbell University String Orchestra, playing the violin, and has even sung alto. She was the winner of the Benjamin Kilgore Gibbs Award in 2006. In addition to her already impressive resume, Miss Gardner is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at Meredith College.

Kathy and Rick have made a very good decision when selecting Miss Gardner. Please visit Miss Gardner's website, garnerpianostudios.com and learn a bit more about her.

As of January 2008, Brenna is still taking lessons with Miss Gardner. Kathy says Brenna is becoming a much more proficient pianist and that Brenna is even getting better than her (Kathy). Lets all wish Brenna our best in hopes her Love for music never dies.

A Thank You from Brenna
