Forty one years ago a group of Beaver Islanders in Grand Rapids felt there
was a need to financially assist Holy Cross Church in the building of the
convent.
This also gave a reason to get together with friends;
not that they needed one.
That is when the Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids was formed, and the
"Beaver Island Caper"
was originated.
The Club started in October 1966 at Janet and Ritchie O'Donnell's home in Wyoming. Present were Janet and Ritchie, Brian Gallagher, Glen and Eleanor McDonough, Larry and Kay McDonough, Bob (Holiday) and Charlotte McDonough, Bob Delaney, Pete and Pat Green, and Marie Boyle. After obtaining financial balances from the first party, the club members decided to donate the profits from that party and Future Parties to various other causes on the Island. |
2008 marks the 42nd year the Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids has been hosting yearly parties. We are in the second generation of members. Our current members are; Diane (president) and Dave Westmaas, Paul (vice president) and Shirley Cole, Danielle (secretary) and Craig Petrak, Jim (treasurer) and Andrea Gallagher, Greg Albreck, and Nathan McDonough. We as the second generation of The Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids are striving to continue the tradition of our Sages. It is our goal to promote a very stimulating, joyous gathering, one filled with much laughter, dancing, and reminiscing. We are also working toward supporting Beaver Island in many ways. We have recently launched the Glen McDonough Memorial Music Scholarship and have awarded to our first recipient, Brenna McQuay. We always welcome new members. If you would like to join, email the club or give one of us a call. There are no obligations, just come by a meeting and see what goes into the planning and enjoy some good friendship and conversation. |
