In 1965 a group of Beaver Islanders in Grand Rapids felt there was a need to financially assist Holy Cross Church in the building of the convent. This also gave a reason to get together with friends; not that they needed one. That is when the Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids was formed, and the "Beaver Island Caper" was originated.

The Club started in October 1965 at Janet and Richie O'Donnell's home in Wyoming. Present were Janet and Richie, Brian Gallagher, Glen and Eleanor McDonough, Larry and Kay McDonough, Bob (Holiday) and Charlotte McDonough, Bob Delaney, and Marie Boyle.

After obtaining financial balances from the first party, the club members decided to donate the profits from that and future parties to various other causes on the Island. Click here for a History.

2017 marks the 51th year the Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids has been hosting yearly parties. Sadly, it is also our last.  We are in the second and third generation of members.  Our current members are; Paul and Shirley Cole [President], Tim (Vice President) and Brenna Wearn, Maeve Green [Vice President], Barb Flowers (Secretary), Jim (Treasurer) and Andrea Gallagher, Dave and Diane Westmaas, Greg Albrecht, Courtney Van Wyk, Whitney Albrecht, Kelly Flipse, Cindy Cushman, Heather McDonough, and Emily Gray.

We as the next generation of The Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids strove to continue the tradition of our Sages. Our goal was to promote a very stimulating, joyous gathering, one filled with much laughter, dancing, and reminiscing.

It is in other ways, we will work toward fostering Beaver Island.  Please keep the Glen McDonough Memorial Music Scholarship in mind. See Eleanor McDonough for more information.
